The importance of the reproducibility of oropharyngeal swallowing in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. An electrophysiological study

Abstract Objective To investigate electrophysiologically the reproducibility of oropharyngeal swallowing in patients with ALS. Methods We enrolled 26 ALS patients, both with and without clinical signs of dysphagia, and 30 age-matched controls. The reproducibility of the electrophysiological signals related to the oral phase (electromyographic activity of the submental/suprahyoid muscles) and the pharyngeal phase (laryngeal-pharyngeal mechanogram) of swallowing across repeated swallows was assessed. Edaphyc characteristics and floristic composition of the seasonally dry forest la menta and timbes, Piura Region, Peru

Con el objetivo de contribuir al conocimiento de los ecosistemas naturales del país, se determinó las características edáficas y la composición florística del bosque estacionalmente seco (La Menta, 04º 43' 55" LS y 80º 04' 55" LO, provincia de Piura y Timbes, 04º 44' 58" LS y 80º 03' 33" LO, provincia de Ayabaca), ambos en la región Piura, Perú. El área de estudio abarcó una extensión aproximada de 6 000 hectáreas en un rango altitudinal entre 350 m a 1 350 m. En cada bosque se muestrearon 5 transectos de 10 x 50 m a intervalos de 20 m, sumando un total de 2 500 m². Residential segregation of foreigners: an analysis of the Italian city of Palermo

Ethnic residential segregation in Italy is an emerging key question, which will be crucial in the definition and implementation of both urbanistic and social policies. This paper focuses on this phenomenon in the Italian city of Palermo. We use individual data for all the population residing in the city at 31 December 2011, organized by ethnicity and district. Firstly, we describe the spatial distribution and the residential segregation of foreigners in the city, applying many different segregation measures.
